Hello! My name is Kimberly Jackson. I’m a Louisiana photographer, proud to announce my current project publishing in February 2021, celebrating Black History Month. The series of photographs are featuring black women, men, and children of excellence. The objective is to capture our culture’s history in today’s lifetime. Focusing on how brilliant, educated, accomplished, brave, and creative we are in the African American community!
I grew up celebrating and learning about African American history. There are so many powerful stories and people that are very necessary to learn about, but I often wondered about the stories and people that were never recorded and carried over into the present/future.
As an African American woman, I think it is extremely important to document the present (time period). This will allow the future generations access to our present.
My main focus is to record the “present-days” to show our current black history in our time period. Recognizing people of color, showing our appreciation and making sure their excellence is celebrated. We hope that this will create positivity in the future generations and encourage them to be excellent.
There are only so many stories that will make headlines and become big topics. We need to make sure our future generations are given much more from us (the African American community) about our own history. The knowledge of our history is limitless. Let’s show our Black Excellence!
I extend a very special thanks to all who participated. You are Black Excellence!
